The story takes place in a remote galaxy. The two characters are actually deadly enemies. They belong to clans that have been at war for close to a thousand years. Dr Goodfellow belongs to the clan of the Adair and the Daughter of the Dragon belongs to the clan of the Ajattar. These two extremely powerful clans have competed for the resources of various stellar systems in the Galaxy for as long as anyone can remember. The Adair, the People of Light, have mastered the power to bend space and time using extremely complex machines. The Ajattar, the People of Fire, have for their part harnessed the power contained in the stars. These two enemy clans have developed technologies that are complementary in many ways but their eternal hatred for each other hinders any possible collaboration between them. And the terrible war they wage against each other feels as it will never end, each clan having an extremely powerful weapon of its own. Notwithstanding, these two clans have much more in common than it would appear, but this is another story.

The famous Battle of the Nidavellir is to be a strategic turn in this eternal war. The Nidavellir system, in the constellation of Centaur concentrates Adair's vital resources, and the latter have long expected an attack from the Ajattar in this part of the Galaxy. They have thoroughly prepared for this since they took control of the system a few centuries ago. On the other hand the Ajattar know that gaining control of it would inflict a deadly blow to their enemies. The Ajattar have prepared the attack for a very long time, assembled their most powerful weapons and most trained warriors. The leader and champion of this army is the Daughter of the Dragon. Facing her and thoroughly prepared to defend his own side is Dr Goodfellow, riding the fastest spaceship in the Galaxy.
